A
hallmark of West Church's life is reaching out beyond our
congregation to care for persons in need, and joining in partnership
with others in the struggle for justice and peace. Some
examples of the ministries that we support with our time, skills,
prayers, and financial resources:
- Saturday Breakfast Club: Each Saturday morning we provide a
hot breakfast of pancakes and sausage for homeless and hungry
people. This ministry is a joint project of West Church
and Westminster Presbyterian Church
- Winter Sunday Afternoon Hospitality: On Sunday afternoons during
the winter months we open our Fellowship Hall so that people who do
not have a warm place to be, can find warmth, safety, conversation
and coffee. This ministry is a joint project of West Church,
Friendship House, and Concord Presbyterian Church
- Prayer Shawls are knitted by
members and friends of our congregation, dedicated during our
Service of Wholeness and given to people who need comfort as a
sign of God's love and our care.

Meeting Ground, a faith-based response to homelessness, providing
emergency and transitional housing that protects and empowers.

Friendship House, which provides an array of services for
homeless men and women in Wilmington, including crisis assistance
and emergency and transitional housing. Among the specific
Friendship House ministries we support include the
Clothing Bank of Delaware and the
Criswell House transitional shelter
for men.
- The F.A.I.T.H. Center, which provides emergency assistance to
families and individuals in crisis.

Career Insights for Teens is a vocational counseling program for
high school juniors and seniors that was developed by West
Presbyterian Church.
- Connections CSP, which provides mental
health counseling, housing, drug/alcohol treatment and vocational
services to persons throughout Delaware.
- Ice Cream on 8th Street, a periodic opportunity to become
acquainted with our neighbors by sharing ice cream on the sidewalk
beside the church.
- Rodney Street Tennis & Tutoring Association, which provides
tutoring in space at West Church.
- West Center City Seekers, an afterschool program for children in
West Center City.
- AIDS Delaware
which provides services to persons with AIDS.
- Interfaith Community Housing which builds affordable housing in
our community and throughout the state.
- Interfaith Community Housing which develops affordable
housing and provides housing counseling.

Interfaith Coalition Building Blocks
for Wilmington which is seeking to has been evolving a
comprehensive set of strategies to develop and sustain a caring
community of integrated individuals and institutions to reduce
violence, restore hope, and instill a more holistic and spirit
lifting approach to addressing concerns and opportunities in our
neighborhoods and communities.
- West Church generously supports the work of
New Castle
Presbytery, the Synod of the Mid Atlantic, and the General Assembly
of the Presbyterian Church (USA) through gifts of money and by our
participation in committees. We also provide financial support
for
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.
- Members of our congregation serve on the Boards of a number
of non-profits in our community including Connections CSP, West
Center City Seekers, Meeting Ground, Friendship House, FAITH
Center, Interfaith Community Housing. Members of our
congregation have also been involved in efforts to rebuild the
Gulf Coast, working through an organization called
RHINO.
