Worship with us at West Church on Sunday Mornings!
New!!! A selection of recent sermons are available on our sermon podcast site.
Sunday
morning is at the heart of our common life at West Church. We
believe that worship is a team effort. The word “liturgy” in Greek
means literally, “the work of the people.” This is why we value
participatory worship at West Church, not only in the service itself
but also in planning for worship. Throughout the year members have
opportunities to participate in small group worship planning
experiences.
On any given week our music ranges from traditional hymns, to
children’s songs, folk tunes, chants, spirituals, and contemporary
compositions. We hope that all who come to worship will hear music
that resonates with their experiences. Our volunteer choir leads the
congregational singing, and our music is often accompanied by the
sounds of a piano. We invite persons with musical gifts to share
their gifts with us in worship. Our worship also includes prayers,
the proclamation of the Good News of the Gospel, and the sharing of
thanksgivings and concerns. Through worship experiences that engage
all of the senses we hope that we are nourished and renewed to go
back out into the “real world” to serve.
We value the participation of children in our worship and actively
seek to find ways to make them a part of the services. Although a
nursery is available, we encourage children to stay in the sanctuary
as much as they are able.
We celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday
of each month and at various other times during the year. In
addition, once a quarter during the regular service of worship we
have a quiet, contemplative Service of Wholeness (Healing Service)
during which we pray for wholeness and health and participate in
silent, spoken and the enacted prayer of anointing with oil.
